Ontario Enhanced New Housing Rebate (ENHR)
The Ontario Enhanced New Housing Rebate may help eligible homeowners recover the provincial portion of HST paid on a newly built or substantially renovated home.
Who may qualify?
- Eligible owner-built new homes
- Major renovations meeting CRA's substantial renovation rules
- Eligible new or substantially renovated homes purchased from builders
- Homes intended as a primary residence
- Projects meeting the applicable 2026–2027 dates and value limits
Important to know
A substantial renovation generally requires
at least 90% of the relevant existing interior
to be removed or replaced, excluding certain
structural components. Ordinary kitchen,
bathroom or basement updates do not
automatically qualify.
Eligible applicants may also qualify for the
separate Ontario New Home Affordability
Payment covering some federal HST.
Home Renovation Savings Program
Ontario homeowners may receive rebates for eligible improvements that make their homes more energy efficient, comfortable and affordable to operate.
What improvements are covered?
- Eligible windows and doors — $100 per opening
- Insulation improvements — up to $7,700 across eligible measures
- Air sealing improvements
- Qualified heat pumps and water heaters
- Other eligible energy-saving equipment
Important to know
For the assessment-based pathway,
homeowners must complete an initial
home energy assessment before work begins
and generally complete at least two
qualifying improvements.
Other upgrades may be available through
separate pathways without an assessment.
Amounts and eligibility vary by measure.
Gatineau Residential Renovation Grant
The City of Gatineau offers financial assistance for certain residential rehabilitation and renovation projects in designated areas of the municipality.
Who may qualify?
- Residential buildings constructed before January 1, 1985
- Properties within designated eligible areas
- Eligible repair, restoration and replacement work
- Buildings meeting municipal valuation and other restrictions
- Projects approved under the City's application process
Important to know
The maximum grant depends on the building
and occupancy. Owners generally must cover
at least 50% of eligible work costs.
The City currently reports a waiting list
of approximately two years. Permits,
detailed contractor quotes and official
municipal approval are required.
